Page One Parents.

Keeping you in the loop.

A program’s success depends on the participation of a student’s parents. You will find a list below of ways you can help your child thrive!

Reading Lists for 2024-2025

Where to find Page One books…

Your child’s school library is your first resource in borrowing Page One books. After that, we recommend your local public library. For those in Lincoln, you can find information about volumes available at your local branch here. Don’t forget that your library has digital resources (both ebooks and audio books) that can help when all physical copies are check out.

Encouraging Readers:

  • A Time to Read.

Start expecting reading time before their official bedtime. As academics become increasingly difficult, taking 15 minutes to read for enjoyment before "lights out" teaches your child to decompress after a long day and encourages them to find pleasure in an activity that can become more work than fun.

  • A Space to Read.

Create a quiet space in your home for reading and other calm activities. Include comfy seats, a variety of light settings and good book selections. Fill a certain shelf with some of your favorites, allowing you to share the joy of reading with your child.

  • A Community to Read With.

Read a book aloud or at the same time. Socializing and sharing stories is a healthy way to interact with students of any age. It also provides extra support and comprehension checks as texts jump in levels of difficulty. Be sure to read some of your student's choices and pick some of your own.

Committees

  • Book List Committee

The Book Lists are composed by parent volunteers. Parents are given selected texts to read, review and recommend for the program. The accepted titles are compiled into a comprehensive "book list" for the current school year. Books are reviewed on an annual basis.

  • Fun Day Committee

Fun Day is a simple way of assisting the Page One team. Help is needed running the games, and monitoring the students.

  • Competition Day Committee

Competition day in the crowning event for Page One. Help is needed in reading the books and writing questions for each level. On the actual day, parents and siblings can assist through grading quizzes, and proctoring tests.

  • Bishop's Book Club Committee

Bishop Conley chooses one book each year to be discussed at the annual book club. Assistance in preparing food for breakfast is appreciated.
